"Quiet Corner"

I went out late today to do a quick plein air piece on this blustery spring day. I stood in the shadow of a giant pole for shade as I painted. As the sun was setting it got cold, windy, and the pole shadow kept moving so I had to move my easel with it! Frustrating! :) Well, the cold made me hurry up more so this ended up being a 1 hour study. Thanks for visiting!

I went out to paint today at a place I frequent often - the Heritage trail. I went to the opposite end of the trail this time and took a short walk down the trail - it runs along the Merrimack river in Bedord, NH. The sun was in and out my whole session but I didn't chase my shadows. I made sure to paint them in at the beginning and then stayed with it. It's difficult painting where everything is green so I tried to inject some other colors. It's just a sketch with more work needed in the studio as usual. What a gorgeous day! Thanks for visiting!

Here is a series of photos I took on a recent plein air adventure and a little video of my experience too. I was right on the side of a fast roadway with lots of bugs, wind and spring 'helicopters' and bugs landing on my palette! It was trying! The sun kept going in and out too! But it was a good experience and the photos show the process as I went along. I was there about 2 1/2 hrs. - just another start for me to work on later. Enjoy!
Update: About a month later the tree was cut down! Glad I got a picture when I did!

"House on the Hill"

This is a video of a recent plein air adventure I went on in my local town of Merrimack, NH. I linked a couple short videos together to get it all in one. It's my first attempt at this so it's very casual.

The final piece is just what I consider a 'start'. From this I can work on it more in the studio trying to keep the freshness I acquired when first painting it and not 'repainting' the whole thing. I'll post the finished piece when I get around to it. Bye for now!
