"Winter Light"

I tried to capture the beautiful light in this winter scene. The icy river in the background against the warm colors of the sun made a nice contrast. I liked slapping on the juicy strokes on this one! Thanks for visiting!

"Quiet Corner"

I went out late today to do a quick plein air piece on this blustery spring day. I stood in the shadow of a giant pole for shade as I painted. As the sun was setting it got cold, windy, and the pole shadow kept moving so I had to move my easel with it! Frustrating! :) Well, the cold made me hurry up more so this ended up being a 1 hour study. Thanks for visiting!

"Mostly Stripes"

Another colorful piece in the spirit of the harvest season. I realized most of the vegetables had stripes so now I had my title. It was tricky getting all the color and values correct on the shadow side of the vegetables, especially with the stripes creating two values - a lot of work. I love the way the colors glow in this painting! I'll have to do more like this! Thanks for visiting!

"Squash City"

Another piece in the spirit of the harvest season. I originally had an apple in there but I felt like I was squeezing in too much so I removed it. That means only squashes remained hence the title! It was fun painting this piece with all the pure colors that you see. I finished the majority of it in one session, then I worked on refinement the next session. I thought I was done until I noticed I forgot to finish the stems on two of the squashes! Done now! Thanks for visiting!

"My Cup Runneth Over"

This is the final painting in my Psalm 23 series. I wanted to portray a feeling of having plenty but keep the focus on actually drinking from a cup, or glass in this case, even though that isn't exactly what the saying means. It means having abundance that overflows in your life. I like the colors and the look of having had plenty. Thanks for visiting!

"Harvest"

In the spirit of the Fall season I have created a little piece that reminds me of the harvest. I really enjoyed using the pure colors of orange, red and yellow. "Another Place in Time"

I painted this on a chilly morning in May with bright sunshine and a cool breeze. On the property is a nice old house and a pond next to that. A nice, quaint place. This is the next one in the pond series. I went with a more yellow/violet them here and it looks like it works out. The water is a little dark but I wanted more mystery in the painting. I painted a series of pictures on this theme giving myself freedom to change colors as I wanted and adjust shapes, etc. as I explored this freedom. "Still Waters"

This is from a series based on Psalm 23… "He leadeth me beside the still waters". I wanted to evoke that time at dusk when everything is quiet, still and peaceful. The colors just add more beauty to the whole experience. It was tricky getting the values in this backlit scene to not look black and to allow some detail but not too noticeable - everything should be vague. Thanks for visiting!

"Streaming Light"

This was the scene as the sun was getting very low on a hot summer day at dusk. Of course I started the painting earlier because this type of light situation will only last a few minutes. I always find this kind of light so beautiful. Thanks for visiting!

I found this old gate in an out-of-the-way place and walked into the woods a bit to get a good angle for the light. The actual scene looks quite different but I created a piece that hopefully invites the viewer into the scene. I hope you like it. Thanks for visiting!

Went out today to paint a small piece en plein air on the last day of June this year. It was a beautiful, sunny day and I was at one of my favorite places - the Heritage Trail in Bedford, NH! The sketch will need some minor work in the studio with edges and color/value adjustments, but it's mostly finished. Thanks for visiting! 

"Summer Sunshine"

One of my favorite spots to paint. Had a lot of fun with this one. The scene is deceiving as I don't have a figure in there for reference. The trees are quite large and there is a drop off to the right that leads to the Merrimack River - quite a nice view. I hope you enjoy this piece! Thanks for visiting!

"Follow The Path"

This area is along the Merrimack River in Bedford, NH. It's known as the Heritage Trail - a beautiful place. I originally started this plein air and then it sat around in the studio for a long time (happens to a lot of my paintings!).
