"Follow Me"

I love this little area to go to and paint. It's really great in the later afternoon in high summer when everything is overgrown and the light is just perfect. It's the Heritage Trail in Bedford, NH - it runs along the Merrimack River on the west side.
This was a piece I created in a series based on Psalm 23... "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life". Thanks for visiting.

Here is a series of photos I took on a recent plein air adventure and a little video of my experience too. I was right on the side of a fast roadway with lots of bugs, wind and spring 'helicopters' and bugs landing on my palette! It was trying! The sun kept going in and out too! But it was a good experience and the photos show the process as I went along. I was there about 2 1/2 hrs. - just another start for me to work on later. Enjoy!
Update: About a month later the tree was cut down! Glad I got a picture when I did!

"House on the Hill"

This is a video of a recent plein air adventure I went on in my local town of Merrimack, NH. I linked a couple short videos together to get it all in one. It's my first attempt at this so it's very casual.

The final piece is just what I consider a 'start'. From this I can work on it more in the studio trying to keep the freshness I acquired when first painting it and not 'repainting' the whole thing. I'll post the finished piece when I get around to it. Bye for now!

"Around Walden Pond"

This scene caught my eye as I was walking around Walden Pond in Concord, MA one day. Autumn was in full color and it was so beautiful that day. I really enjoyed using the strong colors in this piece!

"Evening Shadows"

A nice summer scene along the Heritage Trail. It was later in the day and the sun was getting low which produced a nice warm color. This was painted 'plein air' and then finished in the studio at a later time. I love this area - it's so beautiful.

"Tory, 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado"

This is "Tory", my old 1985 Oldsmobile Toronado. I bought this car in 1989 and just sold it a few years ago in 2012. I kept it up pretty well over the years but it was a money pit and I ended up selling it for a song. I had it 23 years! I thought I'd challenge myself and see if I could do it justice in a charcoal drawing. It came out pretty nice. The car was tan with a cream landau roof - very elegant looking at the time! Enjoy!

"Son of God"

A sketch done of the character 'Jesus' in the movie 'Son of God'. Experimenting with various mediums - tried out vine charcoal for this one. Vine charcoal is very soft and forgiving so you can manipulate it for a while before it stops becoming removable. This was quite a challenge.

"Golden Dusk"

This was done in my studio from a photo I took at the end of a beautiful summer day. The light filtered through the trees and created these wonderful golden colors. I punched up the color a bit for a more dramatic effect.

I've been here before and saw a deer running through this very field only to pause for just a moment to check me out in my car. I tried getting my camera out but only got it's hind legs disappearing into the woods. If I can find the picture, I'll post it.

"Yellow And Black"

I took a picture of these flowers amongst tall grasses out in Hollis, NH recently. I played around with the exposure on my computer and came up with what I think is an interesting composition. Then I painted my version of it here. I like the flashes of green, red and blue I put in to give the piece movement.

I've been trying out still lifes recently so you'll be seeing those here as well as landscapes.

Well, I finally started a blog. This is my first post so it will be a while before I figure everything out. For now I'll just keep painting and working on the blog to make it nice and presentable to the public. I plan on regularly posting pictures of my paintings and comments about them. It might be anything from where the location is to what I went through to get what you see. I'm sure there will be interesting anecdotes too. Thank you for visiting today.
