"Across the Field"

I pushed the color on this one and had some fun. I stood out in this field on a kind of road through the grass. I like the tree a lot but I need to shrink the house a bit, fix the 'road' leading to it and work on the background a little more. Anyway, it was a fun experience. Thanks for visiting!
"Behind the Shed"

It was a hot and muggy day when I set up in back of this shed. The sun was in and out so it was mostly high overcast. I pushed the color on this one. Needs more work. Thanks for visiting!
"Off in the Distance"

This is known as the Heritage Trail and it goes all through New England. This small section is along the Merrimack river in Bedford, NH. The middle section of the drawing looks like a stream but is actually a walking path. Didn't notice while I was sketching it! Thanks for visiting!
"Church in the Distance"

I sat along the Nashua river in the downtown area of Nashua, NH and sketched this piece on a beautiful early summer day. It's a little busy but the church looks pretty good in the distance. Thanks for visiting!
"River's Edge"

I joined a few people in Lambert Park in Hooksett, NH for a painting expedition. This is my piece. Was fun painting it and I enjoyed the whole experience. It was quite hot and humid. It was high overcast but the sun tried coming out later with some blue sky and it got really hot then. May need some touchups. Thanks for visiting!
"Long Summer Day"

This is along a stream just off a main street in Jackson, NH. It was an unbelievable day and I enjoyed the experience even though I was very fatigued. A nice colorful scene with a natural opening to look into the distance. Probably will touch it up a bit. Thanks for visiting!

"Spring Sunshine"

I was out in the country in Hollis, NH on a beautiful Spring day. I found this quaint scene bathed in sunshine. I painted this on site (plein air) and finished up in the studio. A very peaceful place. Thanks for visiting!

"Back on Track"

A quick sketch of a scene not far from my home. I set my chair right along the railroad tracks and proceeded to sketch. Next thing I know a couple of dogs come right up to me wagging their tails and vociferously sniffing my sketch pad! The dog owners apologized right away but I told them I didn't mind because I love dogs. It was the first sketch of the season for me. I worked on it for about an hour or so. A good start to the outdoor sketching season. It was an unusually hot and sunny day - first of the year. Spring is here! Thanks for visiting!

"Self Portrait 2017"

Another self portrait. Seems like I'm always one year behind! For some reason this one came together fairly quickly. Thanks for visiting!

Another commission finished. Had some trouble near the beginning of this one. Some things were too far off and it required quite a bit of fixing. I am happy with the result. Thanks for visiting!

"Railroad Trestle in February"

We had an unusually warm day here in NH in February today, 76 degrees, so I decided to go out and do a quick sketch and enjoy the nice day. I have drawn this motif before because it's close to my house and it's a beautiful area. I thoroughly enjoyed the session. Thanks for visiting!

"Matthew"

Another commission finished.  Charcoal on bristol vellum. This one had tough values because it was from a studio picture with multiple light sources. Very subtle changes all over. It turned out quite well. Thanks for visiting!

"Island Near The Shore"

A plein air piece along a highway leading to Millinocket, ME. I spotted this area as I was driving around looking for a motif. I came prepared the next morning all ready to paint and the weather was beautiful! The traffic was a bit daunting whizzing by at 65 mph but I persisted. A little touch up work in the studio and the piece was completed. I added the boats from Monet paintings to give it more interest. Thanks for visiting!

"Jessica"

A recent commission I finished. The original picture had the girl wearing braces but they didn't want those drawn of course so I created a nicer smile. It's always a little trickier doing portraits where everything is lighter because I'm drawing on white paper. The blonde hair has to be darkened a bit to have contrast so you can see it. Anyway, I'm pleased with the result. Thanks for visiting!

"Old Dana Warp Mill"

This is a commission I did for a family member. It is an old historic mill in Westbrook ME. I really enjoyed pushing the color a bit and rendering all the water areas and the rocks. The buildings add a nice backdrop which led to the bridge in the background and then to the colored pylon to the left that brings you right back to the  turbulent water. Thanks for visiting!

"Hot Summer Afternoon"

I painted this on a beautiful, sunny, summer afternoon. This is a local trail near my home that runs along the Merrimack River. This was completely painted in the open air (plein air). Thanks for visiting!

"Thanksgiving"

A nice Thanksgiving theme. I had fun with the white and black charcoal playing with the light and the shadows. Thanks for visiting!

"Island View, Pawtuckaway"

This is a beautiful park with lots of trails, ponds, islands, etc. I found this view to be rather peaceful so I sat down in my chair and sketched for an hour. I like the smaller islands on either side which adds interest to the focal point - the larger island. They are all different shapes and sizes overall so it doesn't look repetitious. Thanks for visiting!

"Sunny Pastoral"

I found this area while scouting around Jackson, NH. It's right next to a park near a small town center. As soon as I saw the tree and the light I knew I had a beautiful motif. I set up right down in the river bed and proceeded to paint on site. Some more work in the studio and then it's ready for framing. Thanks for visiting!

"Cindy"

Another portrait of a friend of mine. Plenty of challenges in this piece. I always enjoy the final result after so much work. Thanks for visiting!
