 "By The River In April"

This was finished in about an hour on a cool Spring day in April. There was snow on the ground and it was very bright. That is what I wanted to capture - the blazing, bright light amongst the trees. The shadows help emphasize that. The trees are on the edge of a river bank as you can see in the front as the shadows drop down to the water. A nice, little sketch. Thanks for visiting!

"Brook In The Forest"

A forest scene along a stream. This area is right in my hometown in Twin Bridge Park. It was a beautiful day and I was in the shade the whole time so I was very comfortable. It was a peaceful experience and I enjoyed the trip. This is mainly in charcoal pencil (soft), #2, #4, #6 and kneaded eraser. The finished work seems to have a woodsy feel to it. Thanks for visiting!

 "Nicholas"

This was a commission for a friend of mine. It was quite a challenge as I was given a few photographs and had to do a composite to get it going right. Would not normally do that but it was a friend so I said I'd try. When I finished and showed it to her she cried. I guess I was successful! Getting the eyes and the glasses were difficult as everything seemed too small. The shirt was tedious to render. After this portrait I now have guidelines and in them I don't do detailed garments unless they want it, then I'd have to charge more. Anyhow, I succeeded with this one and the artist and client were both happy. Thanks for visiting!

"Peanut"

This is my great niece that I decided to draw one day. What a challenge! The shapes of babies faces are so different and the hair was so thin and wispy. With lots of care and devotion I was successful in getting a very good likeness I believe. My sis ended up buying it. Thanks for visiting!

 "Eddie"

A portrait of the famous guitarist Eddie Van Halen who tragically died in 2020 of cancer. I think this picture is really a cool shot of him where he looks so much like a rock star. It's a bit haunting and mysterious. Thanks for visiting!

"Daenerys"

This is the character Daenerys as played by the actor Emilia Clarke in the hit TV show 'Game of Thrones'. The show is now finished after 8 seasons. I may do some more characters for practice and fun. I feel this one came out quite well. Thanks for visiting!

"Mem"

Another portrait commission for a client. I feel particularly proud of this one as it seems to have come out so nice. I like all the values on the face and how it all balances out. I feel I caught her personality and expressive smile. Thanks for visiting!

"Angela"

SOLD

This little girl has such delicate features. Her hair is wispy and her smirk oh so subtle. Very subtle creases all around the mouth and chin that were necessary to be accurate to really capture her likeness. Very happy with the result. Enjoy!

"Dinho"

Another successful commission. I had three references for this piece and the quality wasn't that good so it was a little more of a challenge to render. The eye had red eye from the camera so I had to try and get rid of that. Overall it came out fine. Thanks for visiting!

"Wonder Woman"

This is the character Wonder Woman as played by the actress Gal Gadot. I really enjoyed sketching this piece and it seemed to just flow and come out quite easily. I did this over about 5 sessions which was a total of about 8 hours. She is so beautiful and I love the character in the movie. Thanks for visiting!

"River's Edge"

I joined a few people in Lambert Park in Hooksett, NH for a painting expedition. This is my piece. Was fun painting it and I enjoyed the whole experience. It was quite hot and humid. It was high overcast but the sun tried coming out later with some blue sky and it got really hot then. May need some touchups. Thanks for visiting!

"Self Portrait 2017"

Another self portrait. Seems like I'm always one year behind! For some reason this one came together fairly quickly. Thanks for visiting!

"Zach"

Another commission finished. Had some trouble near the beginning of this one. Some things were too far off and it required quite a bit of fixing. I am happy with the result. Thanks for visiting!

"Matthew"

Another commission finished.  Charcoal on bristol vellum. This one had tough values because it was from a studio picture with multiple light sources. Very subtle changes all over. It turned out quite well. Thanks for visiting!

"Jessica"

A recent commission I finished. The original picture had the girl wearing braces but they didn't want those drawn of course so I created a nicer smile. It's always a little trickier doing portraits where everything is lighter because I'm drawing on white paper. The blonde hair has to be darkened a bit to have contrast so you can see it. Anyway, I'm pleased with the result. Thanks for visiting!

"Jesus The Christ"

This is from the movie 'The Passion of the Christ" with Jim Caviezel as Jesus. I found this to be a very dramatic piece and thoroughly enjoyed creating it.

"Kelly"

This is my first attempt at using a toned paper. The paper color is tan but it looks gray in the photo. It was quite a challenge rendering her subtle smile and captivating eyes. Thanks for visiting!

SOLD
"Tauriel"

This is the character 'Tauriel' played by actress Evangeline Lilly in the movie "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug". I tried to capture the soft look in her eyes. I really enjoyed drawing this piece. Thanks for visiting!
"A Time to Rest"

I sketched this poetic piece from the warmth of my car on a cold winter day. The variety in the tree was very interesting. I used vine charcoal, which is very soft, to lay in the basic shapes, then I used my kneaded eraser to help refine the shapes. Enjoy!
